How much will my tax return cost?

A basic individual tax return will be a minimum of $165 incl. GST. For more complex returns, such as rental properties, Capital Gains Tax, partnerships and businesses, please contact your DMK Accountant for a price.

What do I need to bring/drop off for my tax appointment?

As a tax client of DMK Taxation & Business Solutions, we will have access to your information on the ATO Portal which will allow us to pre-fill your tax return with employment income, Centrelink income, HECS/HELP/SFSS debt balances, bank interest, dividends and some superannuation details. You will need to provide any evidence of deductions, please refer to this form for what to bring. Please use this form.

Please also provide your bank account details that you would like the tax refund paid to, if applicable.

How long does it take to receive my tax refund?

It generally takes up to ten business days after lodging your return to receive your refund electronically. Some people may have to wait a bit longer for the ATO to process their refund.

Can you take the cost of my tax return directly from my refund?

No. We do not have the ability to deduct the fee of preparing and lodging your return directly from your tax refund. You will need to pay for the preparation of your return prior to it being lodged.

I have provided all documentation for my tax return to be completed, how long will it take until it can be lodged?

Depending upon the complexity of your return, we have an approximate turn around time of 1-2 weeks for it to be completed.

I am a new client, what do I need to provide to get started?

We will need some personal details to get started. Please fill out the New Client Information Sheet and return to our office, or alternatively phone us on 03 5772 1915.

*Please note that we recommend you do not email sensitive information such as your Tax File Number. To provide this to us please call or drop into the office.

I am unable to come into the office for a face-to-face appointment, what are the alternatives?

We are experienced in conducting meetings via video calls using different platforms such as Zoom, Skype and Microsoft Teams and are more than happy to conduct our meetings this way, or even just for a catch up to see how you are progressing. We are also available over the phone and email.

We have a Client Portal for a secure method to upload/download documents and to electronically sign your documents.

We are based in regional Victoria, does this mean that we only service clients within this area?

We have many valued clients from metropolitan Melbourne, interstate and internationally along with our valued local clientele.

I am a tax client with DMK but would also like some financial advice. Do you provide a financial planning service?

I am thinking about changing from my current accountant, where do I start?

Changing accountants is common for various reasons, and whatever the reason you should not feel uncomfortable or feel the need to make excuses. The process of changing accountants is quite simple once the decision has been made. The new accountant will send an ‘ethical letter’ to the previous firm to ensure there are no reasons why they should not accept the new engagement. To begin the process contact us via phone or email and we will contact your previous accountant on your behalf.

At what tax rate is Capital Gains Tax (CGT) paid?

There is no special rate for CGT. It will form part of your taxable income which is assessed at your marginal tax rate. For more information please contact your DMK Accountant.

I am looking at purchasing some new equipment for my business, but I need a loan. Can you help?

I have had a loved one pass away and don’t know where to start with finalising their finances. Can you help?

I am new to bookkeeping and don’t know how to use the software. Can you show me how to get started with looking after my business?

We sure can! Our staff are experienced with a range of bookkeeping software, including MYOB, Xero, Reckon and Cashflow Manager. We can help identify which is most suitable for you, and can guide you through running your own books and payroll system.

I need to apply for a Centrelink allowance but am getting lost in all the forms and evidence required. Help!
